Betty Sue Davis Dickerson, 87, a resident of McComb, passed away at SMRMC on May 2, 2026.
A visitation was held at Hartman Jones Funeral Home on Friday, May 8, from 5PM until 7PM, and continued on Saturday, May 9, from 9AM until services at 10AM. Burial was at Hollywood Cemetery and Dr. David Millican did officiate.
Betty was born on February 7, 1939 in Birmingham, AL to her mother, the late Lena Gertrude Fancher Black. She was a very active member of Central Baptist Church for 65 years. She had great memories of teaching the 3 year old Sunday School Class with her friend, Jean Doyle. She was a member of the church choir and worked in Bible School as well as missions. She had a very loving church family who we loved with all our heart.
She was passionate about working at the Living Word Bookstore for many years. She started working there when her good friend, Earline Guy opened the store. She enjoyed life and many enjoyed her enjoying life. She was frequently called the "life of the party." She enjoyed traveling many times telling those going on trips that she would be glad to go with them. While she was her mother's only child, she had a big family on her mother's side which consisted of very loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was also very close to her husband's family and loved them very much. She was a part of a coffee group that first started meeting at the Walmart food area then eventually moved to McDonalds. She had another afternoon group that met at Wendys. She loved her friends in a big way! She especially loved her friend, Shirley James, who was more like a sister than a friend to her. Shirley and Betty kept a lot of people entertained. She was known to many as Betty Boop. She related to Betty Boop and enjoyed wearing jewelry and articles of clothing with her images. If she made a blunder in life she would say, "I booped again!" She said, and rightfully so, that after her death, her family would have interesting stories to tell. We are sure that is true of many of her friends as well.
She was preceded in death by her mother Lena Black and her husband Tommy Dickerson.
She is survived by her 2 sons Randy Dickerson (Lisa), and Todd Dickerson; her 2 daughters Tammy Anderson (Henry), and Amy Brantley (Matt); 7 grandchildren Brent Mercier (Lauren), Michael Anderson, Brannon Dickerson, Ashleigh Dickerson, Baileigh Brantley, Bethany Brantley, and Alanna Dickerson; 2 great-grandchildren Nora Claire Mercier and Liam Mercier; 1 very special cousin Angie LeDuke; and a special friend that was more like a sister Shirley James.
Pallbearers will be Michael Anderson, L.J. Dickerson, Brannon Dickerson, Mack Frazier, Brent Mercier, and Tim Wilkinson.
We want to extend appreciation to those who were part of Mama's life in her final days: McComb Community Care Center, Fresenius Dialysis, SWMRMC 3rd Floor Staff, Hospice Compassus, and all the health care providers in her life. And a special thank you to Summit Express for medication needs through the years.
