David Earl Whittington, 79, a resident of Smithdale, passed away March 16, 2026 at the Aston Court Community Center in McComb. Visitation will be Saturday, March 28, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Smithdale from 2PM until services at 4PM. Dr. David Millican and Rev. Eric Moak will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Hartman-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
David was born on July 10, 1946 in McComb. He is the son of the late Walter and Eleanor Carraway Whittington. David was a maintenance supervisor for the local school system. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He was a loving dad, uncle, friend and a hard worker, who was outgoing and loved to socialize with his friends and neighbors. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Billy Merle Young and James Lewis "Brother" Whittington; and 1 sister Shirley Ray McKenzie.
He is survived by his daughter Casey Whittington and her children, Victoria Loverchech and Anna Whittington and a great-granddaughter Lucette Payne; 1 niece, Sherry Welch and her daughter, Hope Jordan; 2 nephews, Nicholas Whittington and Terry Young with numerous grand nieces, nephews and family.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eli Griffin, Clayton Cable, Jaxson Jordan and Rocky Jordan; also serving will be Doug McKay and John David McKay.
