Karen Ann Moncada, 82, of Destrehan, LA, formerly of Liberty, MS, transitioned to Heaven on March 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A visitation was held March 23, at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home from 9AM until services at 11AM. Burial was at Keith Cemetery in Smithdale.
Karen was born in New Orleans, LA on September 4, 1943 to the late Martin Zweifel and Mary Larsen. She lived a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to her family. She was the kind of woman who made everyone feel welcome.
Her home was always open, her table always full, and her heart always giving. She found joy in the simple things: time spent with her children and grandchildren, sharing stories, offering advice, and creating memories that will be cherished forever. She was strong in ways both quiet and powerful, facing life's challenges with grace and resilience.
Her kindness, patience, and unwavering support shaped the lives of those around her, leaving a lasting impact that will continue for generations. She shared a beautiful love with her husband, Donald Moncada, and we find comfort in knowing she is with her "Hunny" again in eternal peace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; her brother, Martin Zweifel; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Nettie Ray.
She is survived by her 5 children: Mary Shephard (Norman), Troy Gaulden Sr. (Dana), Tearia Knowles (Danny), Tonya Guitreau, and John Gaulden III (Niki); 2 step-children: Lady Tamara Hillman (Jonah), Robert Moncada; 13 grandchildren: Shelly Shephard, Norman Shephard Jr., Edwin Shephard (Meagan), Troy Gaulden Jr. (Sam), Lance Gaulden (Lauren), Ashlie Varuso (Will), Loni Harney (Scott), Laci Alford (Jason), George Knowles III (Jaci), Hailey Dorn, Paige Hebert (Christian), Curtis Guitreau, and Alliyah Gaulden; 3 step-grandchildren; Ryan Lowes, Michael Moncada, and Allison Moncada; 24 great-grandchildren; Payton (Carlys), Jayden, Kira, Aayden, Brenna, Peyton, Skyler, Kennedy, Bennett, Lennon, Kobe, Brayden, Brooklyn, Taryn, Kendall, Kaylee, Layla, Luka, Logan, Madison, Jackson, Sutton, and Noah, Savannah; 2 brothers: Mike Zweifel, Marvin Rogers (Patricia); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers were George Knowles, Will Varuso, Curtis Guitreau, Kobe Little, Jason Alford, Scott Harney, Christian Hebert, and Dennis Pope.
Honorary pallbearers were her sons, Troy Gaulden Sr. and John Gaulden III.
