Kathryn LaNelle Brumfield Deere 1958 - 2025

Mrs. Kathryn LaNelle Brumfield Deere passed from this life at her residence on May 11, 2025.

Kathy was born in McComb, on July 18th, 1958. She was the daughter of Carl Brumfield, and Joan Alford Brumfield. She was the granddaughter of Samuel and Allie Alford of McComb. Kathy was a 1976 graduate of McComb High School, where she sang in choir and several musicals. Her love of music continued, as she could often be found playing her guitar, and practicing other acoustic instruments. She was also a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, and later became a beloved teacher in the community.

Kathy worked for the McComb School District for 25 years, twice receiving the Teacher of the Year award. She spent many years leading groups for underprivileged students, teaching them about nature and other life skills. This led to the development of a goldfish pond on Otken Elementary’s campussomething she was very proud of. Kathy loved working in her yard, creating her own pond and scenery. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, and spent many years with the First Christian Church of McComb.

Kathy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Prentiss “Paddy” Arnold Deere, III.

She is survived in death by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Josh Deere and Lacey; 1 daughter and son-inlaw, Kristen Davenport and Kyle; 2 brothers, Don Brumfield (Wanda), Samuel “Kokey” Brumfield (Jill); 1 granddaughter Charlotte “Lottie” Deere; and nieces, other family, and many friends.

A private memorial will be held at First Christian Church of McComb. Dr. David Millican will officiate.
