Change is at the heart of democracy, breathing new life into communities and offering the promise of progress. In the quaint, historic city of Magnolia, Mississippi, this spirit of renewal is vividly alive as the city welcomes a newly elected Mayor and City Board. The recent municipal election was mandate that the residents wanted to see change and progress for the city.
A new Mayor, Marvin Brumfield, and three of the five aldermen seats now have new representatives - Ward 1 Chad Williams, Ward 2 -Dorothy Dillon, and Ward 3 - Theresa Weatherspoon. Ward 4 - Joe Cornacchione and Alderman-at-Large, Darrell Pounds retained their seats on the city board.
The official ushering-in of Magnolia’s new leadership was marked by a ceremony brimming with hope and solemnity. City officials, community leaders, and residents gathered at Magnolia City Hall on Monday, June 30 at 6 pm. The event opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by invocations from local faith leaders who called for wisdom and unity.
With hands over hearts and eyes on the future, the new Mayor took the oath of office, promising to serve with integrity, transparency, and dedication. Each City Board member followed, affirming their commitment to uphold the city’s charter and to represent the interests of all citizens. Applause filled the hall as each oath was taken, symbolizing a shared investment in Magnolia’s progress.
Mayor Brumfield continued his message of building community unity and a focus to put the citizens back in charge of governing the city.
Mayor Brumfield stated that his door will always be open to Magnolia’s residents and he and his administration along with the City Board will work together to make Magnolia proper and great.
