Nelda L. Mathews Sibley 1933 - 2025

What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose. Nelda Mathews Sibley, 92, slipped away quietly on October 19, 2025.

Born on July 22, 1933, in McComb, Nelda Louise was the daughter of Howard H. and Juanita Purl Mathews.

After graduation from McComb High School, she continued her education at Mississippi University for Women.

Nelda was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she made lifelong friends. She was a very skilled writer of letters that always created joy for her recipients.

She loved rainy days, old classic movies, and jigsaw puzzles. Playing the organ, bird watching, preparing favorite family meals, reading, travel, and all things related to France, were a few of her passions.

Nelda was married to her best friend Al for 73 years. They loved traveling, being with family, and going through life together. They showed us all how to keep a long and meaningful marriage.

She is survived by her husband Al Sibley; children Lisa Sibley and Hal Sibley; grandchildren Jessie Kelly and Cody Thames.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Dixie Thames; parents Howard and Juanita Mathews; sisters Anitra Williamson and Lena Burt.

Nelda taught us how to cultivate long friendships, as tangible with The Dutch Girls, who enjoyed decades of support and laughter together. She will be greatly missed everyday.
