The South Pike School District Board contracted with the Mississippi School Boards Association (MSBA) to assist in the search for the new superintendent of the district to replace Dr. Angela Lowery, whose contract was not renewed and ends June 30.

A job announcement advertising the superintendent vacancy and outlining the district qualifications for the position were posted online at the MSBA website with the application in February. MSBA also sent an email to over 5,000 people announcing the search and requesting assistance in publicizing the vacancy. The deadline to receive applications was set as March 28, 2025. All completed applications which were submitted by the deadline were accepted and processed.

There were 16 applicants for the South Pike District superintendent position. Dr. Denotris Jackson, MSBA Executive Director and Dr. Tommye Henderson, MSBA Superintendent Search Manager, met with the Board to review the applications on May 6, 2025.

Among the applicants are four assistant superintendents, two directors, one coordinator, three principals, one assistant principal, one case manager, two consultants, and two from organizations outside of education. Seven of the applicants have a doctorate degree. Eleven of the applicants are male, and five of the applicants are female. All of the applicants are from Mississippi.

Each application was reviewed, analyzed, and evaluated according to the criteria established by the South Pike School District Board members. A determination was also made as to whether each applicant met the qualifications to be a superintendent in Mississippi, as defined in Mississippi law which went into effect on July 1, 2017 or met the alternative qualifications.

Applicants were interviewed by the MSBA Search Team. Telephone calls and personal contacts were made to gain additional information on each applicant. Basic background and legal checks were completed on each of the applicants.

The Board members received the report and all application materials and are in the process of selecting finalists to interview for the position with the coordination of interviews by the MSBA. The new superintendent should be in place by July 1.
