Stephen Ford “Petey” Lampton, 76, of Magnolia died at his home on September 23, 2025 after a long illness.

He was born on November 11, 1948 to Walter Monroe “Pete” and Janet Cain Lampton of Magnolia.

He grew up in Magnolia and was a graduate of South Pike High School, the University of Southern Mississippi, and the Louisiana State University School of Banking. He was married for 54 years to the former Mickey Williams of Gillsburg. He followed a family tradition as a banker and served in the banking industry of Southwest Mississippi and Southeast Louisiana for more than 35 years.

He is remembered for his sharp wit and his fine sense of humor, his skill and kindness as a banker, as well as his deep love of his family and his passion for LSU sports and golfing. He was a lifetime member of Magnolia United Methodist Church. He belonged to the McComb Lions Club and the Fernwood Country Club’s Men’s Golf Association. He also coached McComb Rotary youth basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters Lisa Lampton of Decatur, MS; Christy Lampton Rushing (Steve) of Fernwood, MS; granddaughter Anne Elizabeth Rushing of Fernwood, MS; grandson Bruner Rushing of Fernwood, MS; sister Lynne Lampton Watkins of Chesnee, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bruner Rushing, Steve Rushing, Cage Puckett, Derek Puckett, Scott Schilling, and Russ Stogner.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Luke Lampton, Lindsey Lampton, Tom Ed Brumfield, Chuck Evans, Jack Lindsey, Chaney Phillips, and Steve Walsh.

The funeral service was held September 25, 2025 at Magnolia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Speed officiating. Visitation was at 12 noon followed by the service at 1 pm.

The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to the staff of Hospice Compassus and caregivers Eddie Jean Bowksky, Kathy Gatlin, Linda Butler, and Dorothy Hunter for the compassion shown to their beloved.
